Dr Vias Markides

MB(Hons), BS(Hons), MD, FRCP, MBA

Vias is the head of cardiology at the Royal Brompton Hospital. He joined us in 2016 and has his clinic at 90 Sloane Street on Friday morning. Through Vias we are able to provide the very best cardiology care.
His sub speciality is arrhythmias and ablations.

Dr Vias Markides

Dr Vias Markides studied at Imperial College, London, qualifying in 1992 with distinction in all subjects, he was awarded the University of London Gold Medal, (coming top of all medical students in London.)

He trained at St Mary’s, St Thomas’ and Hammersmith hospitals. In 2002, he was appointed as consultant cardiologist with an interest in arrhythmias and led the arrhythmia service on both sites of the Trust for ten years.

The arrhythmia service has developed into the largest service of its type in the UK. Dr Markides has written for the National Service Framework for CHD (Chapter 8: Arrhythmias), and for a number of years was the clinical lead for arrhythmias/devices for the Northwest London Cardiovascular and Stroke Network, before taking overall leadership for cardiovascular services for the same network.

He has played an important role in the shaping and delivery of a novel model of care for arrhythmias in London.

Dr Markides specialises in the management of all arrhythmias, but especially ablation for complex arrhythmias. Including:

• atrial fibrillation

• ventricular tachycardia

• implantation of pacemakers, ICDs and devices for cardiac resynchronisation.

• research interests include: complex arrhythmia mapping

In 2014 He was appointed as director of the heart division at Royal Brompton Hospital.

Professor Diana Gorog

BS, MB, MRCP, MD, PhD

Diana treats patients with all types of heart disease, including angina, hypertension, heart failure and valvular heart disease. She undertakes coronary angiography and angioplasty. Diana also heads a research team in thrombosis and prevention of heart attacks. Her clinic at 90 Sloane Street is on Wednesday afternoons.

Professor Diana Gorog

Professor Diana Gorog trained at St Bartholomew's Medical School, London, with postgraduate training at the Hammersmith, Royal Brompton, St Thomas’, Royal Free and St Mary's Hospitals. 2004 Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. Prof Gorog is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology.

She is Clinical Director of Cardiology at E&N Hertfordshire NHS Trust, and holds a visiting Professorial post at the University of Hertfordshire. She also holds appointments at Imperial College, and Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust. Prof Gorog is an interventional cardiologist specialising in Coronary angioplasty. Her research interest is in identifying patients at risk of coronary and cerebrovascular thrombosis using novel near-patient testing.

Further projects involve treatments with antiplatelet agents and novel anticoagulants (NOAC) as well as PAR-1 inhibitors. She supervises a number of MD students.

She is an expert reviewer of articles for a number of international cardiology journals.

Diana is married with two children.

Dr Denis Pellerin

PhD MD, FESC

Denis is a consultant cardiologist at The Heart Hospital. He established the best equipped, most specialised and highest throughput Echo Department in the UK. Denis brought to 90 Sloane Street the latest Echo machine with its extraordinary image quality.
Denis performs stress echo tests on Thursday mornings.

Shamshed Begum

Shamshed is our Echocardiographer/cardiac technician. She joined us in 2016, and runs our cardiac investigations unit. Shamshed analyses the 24 Holter and ambulatory blood pressure monitors at 90 Sloane Street which provides us with the fastest results in London.
